Some days you just need a run

This week has been tough and its only Tuesday.

Yesterday I walked into work and found out that my very good friend, co-worker and mentor was leaving the company and his last day would be this Friday.

I was shocked and confused.  I knew that the work situation would not be the same forever but I never thought that he would be leaving this soon.

Last night I came home and ate three giant handfuls of peanut M&Ms and then pulled out the frosting from the fridge.  I definitely tend to eat when I am upset.

Today was not much better...I have been scrambling to collect all the information I can so that I will be ready to handle any problems that may arise after my co-worker leaves.  Its been scary to think what it will be like without my mentor and friend.

Tonight I just needed to run.  And it wasn't the best run, but I managed to pound out a few miles at tempo pace which felt great.  Focusing on keeping my pace fast helped to not think about the work situation.

I think turning to running was a much better choice than turning to food.  And I feel a lot better after pounded out a few miles compared to after stuffing my face with frosting and candy.

Sorry to hear about work - it sucks when the place you spend way too much time at has drastic changes and are not as ideal as they could be. Great job turning to exercise instead of more frosting!

What bummer news! And that it was a shock makes it even worse. Can you keep in touch with them after they leave?

I am having a crap week too. Stuffed my face today. Then kickboxing. That made me feel much better than the food.

Hope your week gets better!

Hang in there, you will be okay. Runs are so therapeutic. Hopefully, you get a chance to tell your coworker and friend he will be missed, but trust that you can handle things without him. We are stronger and more adaptable than we know. Here's to a better second half of the week.

It sucks to lose someone important to you at work, especially if it's going to mean added stress for you too. Double whammy. Run it out!!!

Change can be so hard. I am happy you got a run in though!

sometimes a run is all you can do. especially with work situations you can't control. i swear my runs or workouts keep me sane at work! sorry you're mentor is leaving, that's tough.

That's really tough. I hope you find a way to keep that coworker in your life even though you won't be working together.

Sounds like you made the right choice.

So sorry to hear about your co-worker. I hope you are going to be able to stay in touch.

Take care of yourself.

It's always hard when important co-workers leave. I hope you are able to make a smooth transition and keep in touch with your friend. Running definitely helps me when work gets stressful.

Sorry to hear that your co-worker is leaving. Things might be tough initially but you will be able to handle it! Nice to hear that a tempo run got your mind off of it for a bit!
