Run then Repeat

This mornings workout was planned especially so that I could work on running under 7 minute miles to prepare for the race. I want my body to know what the miles are supposed to feel like and so that way I wont go out too fast or too slow. Therefore this morning I ran mile repeats!

I ran to the track, stretched quick and then started the first mile. The laps were uneventful as it was dark and I think I may have zoned out a bit. I finished the 4 laps and waited a few minutes then started the second mile.

Mile 1: 6:53
Mile 2: 7:00

The second mile I started off slower and that totally hurt me because at the end I was racing to finish at the 7 minute mark. Overall it was a decent workout and now my hamstrings are a little sore. Is two miles for repeats enough?? I remember the distance girls in high school track running 3-5 mile repeats!!

I did go swimming last night too - only 500 yards because I knew I would be running this morning (I forgot how to swim for like the first few laps). I am not sure what to do for a workout tomorrow, I was going to take off Friday but two days off before the race I think is too much.

I guess I should get back to work...

Holy cow... you are so fast! I don't think I could keep up the same pace for both miles!

If you go on runnersworld.com they have a training section and then will tell you what you need to be doing depending on what race you are going to enter. I started using them when I didn't really know what I was supposed to be running in my workouts. I was a hurdler in highschool, so this long distance running is really new to me.

Great job on the repeats! It's really good that the second mile was so close to the first.

Great speed! My training plan has me adding 1 repeat every two weeks. We'll see how that goes!

Mile repeats are fun...and you did a fantastic job on yours.

As for your question, i think it all depends on what kind of race you are preparing for, and what your stamina/endurance is. For example, at the beginning of the year, I find i can only do 2 repeats before I'm totally wiped out...now I can do 4 easily...but that's because i'm in full marathon training mode, so it depends.

Great job on the repeats. Is it a 10k? 1/2? I forget now. you're super speedy girl!

Wow... that's quick. I would think the 2 miles is enough but it really depends on what event you're training for. You might want to do more if you're working for a marathon but it should be enough for a 5-10K. Awesome job

2 mile repeats are great!

When i ran in high school, our coach made us do 3-5 mile repeats with a 2 minute break in between.

It was every wednesday, & each wednesday, i DREADED repeats, but they helped me SO much. Towards the end of the summer, my coach gave us like an ideal range for each repeat, and if we stuck in between that range for all 3-5 of them, he took us to breakfast!

Yummmm! Keep up the great work speedy! :)
