Music and Running

I woke up this morning at 7:30am and slowly got ready. From now until February, the college gym is opening at 8am on Saturdays on a trial basis so I decided to take full advantage of it to start my day early. I planned to get to the gym by 8ish and run on the treadmill then lift. After that I would stop by B-Rabbits swim meet, then go shopping!

I managed to get to the gym and on my favorite treadmill by 8:25. I really like this one treadmill because it has fans on it as well as it has a simulated track thing on the display so that I can tell where I would be if I were running on the track. I also love this treadmill because it is farther back from the tvs so that I don't have to look up so much, its more in my line of sight and that way I don't fall off the treadmill and get knocked unconscious! I brought my ipod too!! I was pretty excited to see how wearing my ipod would go. Whenever I run inside on the treadmill, I sweat a lot!! I had made a workout playlist and wanted to run until I got all the way through it and of course I forgot to look at the total time on itunes so I had no idea how long it actually would be.

I really enjoyed running with music - It was nice to have something to listen to while I watched the televisions. Plus it felt like it made the time go by quicker. I wonder if you can sweat in your ears - I was afraid that I was going to short out my headphones. I decided to ask for a new pair of sports/running earphones for Christmas. The whole time I felt like my left ear bud wasn't in all the way.

I started at a 8:34 min/mile pace and gradually increased throughout the run to an 8:06 pace. I had wanted to do 8 miles but my music playlist ended at 7 miles and also my knees were hurting from the pounding. Here's the stats:

7 miles / 58:58 / 8:25 pace (the treadmill said I had done 28 laps on the track!! WOW!)

I probably could have gone faster from the beginning but that is something to remember for next time! After I finished running I did some serious lifting and now all my upper body muscles feel heavy and tired. I then showered at the gym, which is actually really nice because you come out of the weight room and into the locker room and just shower - there is no sweaty walk/drive home!

Then I went to part 2 of 4 of B-Rabbits swim meet. He swam the 100m freestyle race and once again did pretty good for not swimming in such a long time. In a little while I am headed back to the pool to watch him swim the 100m backstroke! I really love watching backstroke, it is one of my favorite races!

Oh yeah, after watching swimming this morning I headed off on my shopping excursion! I hit up Breuggers Bagels and had a nice bagel with a large coffee for a nice post run splurge! All that caffeine got me going and I went off and spent lots of money! I ended up buying my track spikes (they are gray and I really wanted Bright orange but oh well) as well as the under armour underwear and spandex! I also found at target the half spandex legging things - they only go to the knee! I have been looking for these for a while so I grabbed the last size large!!

I also picked up the pottery B and I painted before Thanksgiving - it came out amazing! This week I will do a nice picture post of all of this stuff! Now I am back at my apartment and I am super tired!! I have 95% of my Christmas shopping done and most of the wrapping completed too!

Now I am going to crash on the couch and try to regain some of my strength!

AWESOME run! and lifting, too, sounds like a great workout. those are really feel-good workouts, when you go hard. and LOL about not looking at the time on your playlist. I've done that before, tho, and wanted to run to the end of a bunch of songs. it's a great idea! i also remember the first time i ever ran with an ipod (last year after christmas) and it was on a treadmill and i was TOTALLY mouthing the words and so pumped up. hehehe. SO EXCITED FOR CHRISTMAS! nice job having shopping + wrapping done,... i love that! i can't wait to have my own pile going :)

7 miles is a lot to put in on a treadmill. I get bored so easy. And you're just showing off with being pretty much done with your shopping AND wrapping. Or maybe that is just me being jealous.

Nice job on the treadmill run! I love it when there's a treadmill with extra fans on it. I can't run when the air is stagnant!

Great job on the run. The right set-up makes all the difference. Ditch the earbuds for running though. Activity ones are way better.

yeah, im a fan of the treadmill, i actually think I have a phobia sometimes of running outside...I like that there is a tv there too, i get so zoned out that the time goes by fast...today is my wicked long day...so hopefully it will go by quicky.

Nice work on the treadmill run. It can get boring but it sounds like the treadmill you ran on is pretty cool with the screen and fan.

Wow, 7 on the treadmill? Geez, you are so hardcore. But then, necessity makes me do things I normally don't like to. I always listen to music when I'm the treadmill. It's the only thing that makes the time go by!

Wow, busy day - I'm tired just reading it!

Nice job on your workout. I wish the treadmills at my gym had built-in-fans!

I use the Nike Sport headphones. I find them at Target for about $26 and they work great for running.
