Final College Track Meet

I am back from Massachusetts (got back late Friday night!) and I had a blast. It was probably the most enjoyable track meet this year because I wasn't stressed about needing to preform at my best (although I wanted to do well).

I ended up coming in 4th place in my region with 3238 points (I was originally seeded 5th). I didn't get many PRs but I had fun the whole time and took lots of pictures. Not only did I have a good meet but the rest of the team did too! The mens team ended up coming in second in the region and one guy qualified for nationals in the decathlon and another in the 400m hurdles! It is sad to think that track is over but there are so many good memories to look back on.

It surprisingly has not hit me yet that my college athletic career is over...prolly wont truly set in for another couple of months. The good news is that my 15k training can now begin. The Boilermaker 15k race is exactly 8 weeks away. The only thing I need now is an actual plan to follow! Anyone have any ideas??!!

I started moving all my stuff into my apartment. I can't believe that I have my own apartment! I feel so grown up! I also feel like I am going to go wild at Target later this week!! I also started going through a lot of my books on my bookshelf and I feel like I have some that I don't need anymore. I know there are some websites where you can sell or exchange books. Has anyone used these websites or know anything about them???

Thanks to everyone for all the nice comments! It really means a lot to me! I hope everyone is having a great weekend!

It is good you have a plan for post college athletics! The 15k sounds great! I've only used half.com for sell backs. Good luck!

J - 15K plans are a little tough to come by becuase it's not a popular distance. One that comes to mind is Hal Higdon: http://www.halhigdon.com/15Ktraining/15Kadvsch.htm

Good luck! Oh - and congratulations again on your graduation!

I was wondering if the 15k you mentioned before was the boilermaker. I say I'm going to do it every year and then don't. Maybe this year???

On the crabmeat mac & cheese -- yes, I made it. I used my favorite mac & cheese recipe and just added a pouch of crabmeat. It was yummy! I'm a fan of the lobster mac & cheese from one of my favorite restaurants so I decided to try making something similar.

Congrats on finishing your collegiate career so strong and thanks for the blister tip. I suggested it to Alice and she made an interesting face.

The 15K training plan I use is essentially the same as a 5K training plan with more mileage. It comes from the Jack Daniels book, "Daniels Running Formula". It's really a 24 week plan, though he gives a specific method for whittling it down to whatever length you need. Since you're already pretty fit coming off a collegiate track season, you don't have to worry about the base building quite as much.

A 15k? AWESOME! Congrats on your meet and rocking it. Its crazy how time flies!

Let me know what website you find to sell the books. I have some i need to sell too. I hate to see all that money go to waste getting dusty on a bookshelf.

Training plan for a 15k? I'm not sure of one but let me know what you find! I love to think about running and training plans! :)

Go to runner's world.com, they have an amazing tool for making your own training plan! You just put in your last time for a race, how "hard" you want to train and how many miles per week you're willing to put in. I LOVE IT!! I'm not sure they have a 15K option, but you could probably do one for a Half-marathon and just tone down the long runs if you want to?

CONGRATS on what sounds like a VERY successful college And college-athletic career :) !!

Congrats on the 4th-place finish!

I've used PaperBookSwap.com to trade books ... you pay shipping when you mail books, and get a credit to receive one for each swap. It takes a while before you're picked to swap, usually, unless you have rare / in-demand books. Newer books will go quicker!

I've never tried selling my used books, but friends have through amazon.com.

I've never specifically trained for a 15K. There's one I run every year. Either I'm underprepared because I've been running 10Ks, or if I'm lucky I've done some 8-milers first. That race is in the winter, and my mileage usually sucks that time of year.

Anyway, you'd be really well prepared if you found a half marathon training plan. You can leave off the higher-mileage runs and stop at 9 or 10.

How rockin'...a 15 K!!! I am signing up for a half marathon this week...and it is exciting! I can't wait to read how your training goes.

Hopefully that will help with the transition from college athletics to the next phase :)

Congrats on your final meet! I'm glad it turned out to be such a fun trip and experience!

Have fun moving into and decorating your new apartment!

I found half.com to be the best place for selling my books. I think you end up getting a better profit margin on it than other sites. I've always been pleased.

Now that college athletics are over LIFE begins...wish I could tell you that the transition will be easy but honestly it is WEIRD!! I had to find a new identity, as weird as that sounds. Good luck with your 15K and moving. Fun ahead my dear!!
