Interval Tuesday

It has been a very interesting last couple of days.  The weekend flew by and so did Monday as I never got around to posting.

Friday night Brian and I drove home to his parents house and went to a family bowling party.  It was pretty awesome and we stayed out till after midnight.  Saturday I woke up and felt hung over even though I didn't drink at all the night before.  Also my left hip was sore from all the bowling so I took Saturday off from running.

Sunday I got up and made it out into the SUNSHINE for a wonderful run.  My legs felt good and I really pushed the pace.  4.8 miles at 7:10min/mile pace and I was dying at the end.  This run really helped me to realize that I am getting faster.  I think the reason I haven't raced since last summer is because I lack the confidence.  I was in such good shape 9 months ago and I set such high expectations for myself that I worry I wont be able to meet them.  Although it was beautiful out, I didn't totally enjoy this run.  I was just pushing hard and focusing on my legs.  Slow steady runs really are more enjoyable because you can look at your surroundings and just relax.

Monday was a full cross training day.  I went to the gym in the morning and finally learned how to use the new Ellipticals.  I just glided along for 30 minutes while I read my book then jumped off and did some upper body weights.  After work I met my best friend Kaylie at the gym for a yoga class.  I didn't go last week and I could totally tell because my hips and hamstrings were so tight!

This morning I decided to run treadmill intervals instead of waiting for Wednesday (workout stolen from Lacey).
1 mile warm up
3x [400m, 400, 800m] with 90 seconds rest after each and 3 minutes rest between sets
0.5 mile cool down

And this workout killed me!  I ran this workout at a much faster pace than the last time when I did the 600s and 800s workout.  I think I ran it at about a 6:47 or 6:50 pace last time and this time I started at 6:35 pace but could not hold it.  I scaled back to 6:40 for the second 800m and the final set.  After the second set I stopped to walk because I thought I was going to throw up and my stomach hurt so much.  I only did 400m for the last 800m because I was dying.  It just wasn't a "good" feeling workout.  I feel like I am running out of ideas for interval workouts!

Its been another busy day at work.  Hope you all are having a fabulous week!

Confidence is such an important factor in not only racing but running in general. If you lack it, you don't always push yourself for fear of failure. So happy that you are feeling more confident about your runs and getting your speed back. I know it was hard taking the time off when you are injured but just remember that now you have the knowlege and tools to take preventive measures. Get your run on girl!

The worst feeling in the world is approaching a piece of equipment in the gym, staring at it wondering how it works, getting on, totally fail to understand how it works, then quietly and inconspicuously step off, hoping no one saw what just happened.

No, that's never happened before, what are you talking about...

You are FAST! I was so stoked today because I ran ONE mile at 7:10, and there you go running 4.8! lol, good job! I know what you mean about fast runs not being so enjoyable... they make me appreciate my long slow runs even more.

Yeah I am glad you are getting your confidence back. It sucks when you know you can go faster then what you are doing. :) Great job on all of those tough work outs

I hate workouts when you're just not feeling it. For me, I almost know whether or not a work out is going to be good before I even start. I wonder if my head/how I think it will be affects how it actually is?
Great job on the workout though.

I tried my first interval run this week. It was fun, but challenging.

Dang you are fast - I don't think I could do one mile at that pace! Well done! I haven't done speed work in a while. I know it's necessary, but it's def not my favorite thing as it's not as relaxing and I am always looking at my watch to make sure I am still on pace.
