Three Things Thursday

Three Thursday Questions -

1. Dinner time. What time is that actually? Recently I have been eating around 7pm because I wait for Brian to get home from the gym. I would rather eat a little earlier so I can fully digest before I go to bed! We usually eat together during the week because he can't really cook. Plus it's just easy to cook for two. So what time is your dinner time??

2. I'm sure that you all have picked up on the fact that I love intervals. Since I have been stealing everyone's workouts I have noticed that the rest time after each interval is different for each workout. For 400m I usually rest for 400m but what about longer distances? How long do you rest between each interval or set??

3. Yesterday was Ash Wednesday and so Lent has started. I am Catholic and I have been contemplating what I will give up for Lent (I am a little behind). The past years when I was in college I told myself I wouldn't give anything up I would just try to be more patient and kind to others. This year I just don't know what I should give up. I don't eat much candy so that really is not a sacrifice. Are you planning on giving something up for the next 40 days? Let me know what you are doing for Lent!

We eat dinner early. My kids go to bed early so we eat at 5:00 :-) I hope you have a great day!

I don't usually eat dinner because I am working the night job, but I do eat before I go in so technically I eat dinner around 5/6pm.

No intervals for me!

I can't figure out what I want to give up either. I am not a practicing cathelic but still wanted to give up something... let me know what you come up with!

I would love to have dinner at 6 (thats when we had it growing up) but I don't get out of work until 6. So its around 7 - unless I got the gym then its later. I hate it, but it is what I have to do. I did intervals last night. I have not grown to love them yet. For 400m I rest 800m.

I usually eat dinner between 6-7 depending.

As for Lent...over the years I have given up a lot. I lost weight, stopped smoking, no soda..etc. This year, I decided to give up time. Yes, more time. I will donate a few hours a week to someone(s) else. Whether it be a family member or friend that needs my time or a volunteering thing, each week I am going to donate time. :)

i have never given anything up before- it wasn't something i did growing up or ever since then so it's just not anything i think about or that i feel is a part of who i am/what i should do. i wonder what i would give up tho. hard to say!

dinner for me is all over the place. i'm also almost always cooking b/c elliot gets home so late (7 as well). sometimes i'll make food and just make hijm a plate to reheat, or make extra pasta etc. sometimes i'll do my own thing and he'll do his own thing later. and sometimes i wait for him. it totally depends on my mood and what i want to do. i would like it if we always ate together!! it would make it feel more like a meal with a start and an end as i tend to just keep eating through the night... :)

1. We usually eat dinner at 5pm, but since we started P90X, we eat around 6:15.

2. I am not doing intervals yet, so I cannot help.

3. I just blogged about my Lent sacrafices... but they are: tv, facebook, cell phone emailing and texting, and the SCALE!

I like to have dinner around 6:00. My spouse and my schedules are so different that we rarely actually eat together, so I just leave his in the microwave.
For intervals, I usually do recovery for half the distance of the sprint. You could also do a timed recovery- say 1 to 3 minutes rest depending of the sprint distance.
Lent- I'm not Catholic but I have a Lenten calendar that I am following that has a different sacrifice or task of giving for each day.

I eat dinner at 6pm. That means I don't always get to eat with my husband (who often gets home later), but if I eat later I feel yuck at night. So I'll eat and then when my husband comes home and eats I just sit down with him and discuss the day. Kind of a compromise, we get that family time but my tummy is happy.

i usually eat dinner around 530. that's what time i was brought up eating it (due to lots of kids and different schedules) so it's just become a habit.

i tend to rest about 1/4 mile to 1/2 mile for longer repeats. my plan right now has me recovering for 3 minutes between long intervals which is about .35 mi

i'm not catholic so i dont really have to give anything up. so i don't. i hate how lent has turned into a "diet" or "new years resolution part 2" rather than becoming closer to god...but that's just me

Our dinner is usually later than it should be. But often during the winter, I feed the kids before my run so they eat early then I eat after my run.

I am not Catholic and do not 'give up' anything for Lent. Rather I feel I should be doing things all the time that are "sacrifices." whether that be doing something for someone else, giving of time or money, i.e. There have been years I did give up things for Lent but then went back to them after. And nothing I have ever given up was any where near the sacrifice that was made for me.

During the week I usually eat dinner late... by the time I run or workout after work, get home and make dinner it's after 8 most days. It works for me because if I eat earlier, I always want to munch before bed.

For longer intervals, the rule of thumb I was taught is that the rest intevral should be the same amount of TIME as the hard interval was. Since it's usually easier to go by distance, I'll generally recover for half the distance of the hard interval.

I usually eat dinner between 6-7 depending on where i am at, how long it takes to cook & what kind of mood im in.

Im giving up all things shopping related so i can get an iphone!!!

Dinner time is usually between 5 and 630 for me; earlier if I don't workout after work... later if I do.

Yes, I am Catholic and will be giving things up. Check my post tomorrow on this. :)

I've got two small maniacs. The little one will fall asleep in her dinner if I don't feed her by 6:30.

I love intervals too. It makes me feel strong. And it really does help me get faster.

I don't normally give up anything for Lent. I need to work on my temper. I usually try to do that instead.

1. Usually between 6pm and 7pm.

2. Hmmm... maybe something like the same ammount time as it took me to run the interval.

3. I didn't give anything up. I'd like to do something "special" in recognition of it, but I'm a little behind, too.

1. Dinner is at 5:40 - but I have young kids and a husband who gets up really early/goes to bed early.

2. I tend to do about half the distance or a similar amount of time, depends on how I feel.

3. I've never given anything up for Lent (Lutherans don't), but this year I feel like I should be paying more attention to meaning of this time of year.

We generally eat between 5-6. My husband gets home around 5 and he usually cooks so it depends on how long the meal takes. :)

THanks for the link!

I usually rest for 400 regardless of length -- so, I rest 400 for my 800s, 1200s, etc.

I eat around 8 pm each night, which is WAY later than I would like to, but that's what time I get home pretty much every day. The earliest I eat is 7 pm which is still later than I'd like, but oh well!

I gave up candy for Lent. It is going to be a challenge because a co-worker has a very well-stocked candy drawer!! But it will be good for me!

Jeri said...

it totally depends on my run. sometimes I'll eat right at 5 if I'm running later, otherwise I eat at 9-10pm after I get home from the gym. I don't have a good magical recipe for rest after intervals, but I like to walk for .1-.2 miles.

I just wrote a blog about Lent and sacrifices and what I'd be giving up, too. Always love this time of year to kick me out of some bad habits (but hate this time of year with the snooooowww! ugh). For rest, generally just get your hr down but not totally to a resting rate but enough to make you feel like you can do it all over again. Normally, I don't recommend more than a 400 rest on anything. Happy Thursday to you!!

we eat late, around nine, after I feed the kids and my husband gets home from work. It's our downtime.

I usually give up chocolate for Lent, but this year I gave up salsa!

Your email didn't come through...are you from Rochester?

i just came across your blog! yay! to answer your 3rd question…last year I began to make a conscious effort to journal and enjoy more quiet time. this year, after a crazy year and a half, i want to work on self-love and positive thought which can become quite challenging as a runner :)

I eat after I get home from the gym, so it's usually between 6:30 and 7:30 p.m.

I decided to give up alcohol for Lent. I don't really know if it will be a huge sacrifice for me since I'm not a huge drinker to begin with, but socially it might be difficult since my friends like involving alcohol in our social activities.

D and I have such weird eating patterns we are in the same room, but rarely eating dinner together... mine is all over the place just based on hunger

Dinner for us is usually 7:30 because I get home so late. I wish it could be earlier.

I am not giving up anything for Lent this year, but am planning a no-processed foods challenge soon. I would have liked to start it on Wednesday, but we had a family emergency last week and were out of the house, so we feel unprepared!

1. Dinner is when my run is over. If I ate first, I'd probably be having dinner twice (ewe!!!)

2. 1 for 1, in other words if it takes you 4:00 to run an 800, recover for 4:00. Remember - the value in the workout is recovery...

3. Not being a catholic, I don't observe lent, but if I had to give up something that was of value for 40 days, I suppose it would be my iPod - you know allow me to be closer to God and my thoughts as I run.

Have a great weekend! Spring shouldbe right around the corner!

I used to be so good about giving stuff up for lent, now I don't even do anything, after years of "I'll work on my shortcomings"

Dinner after baby goes to bed around 7:30/8!

I eat around 7 or 8. I didn't think that was late until I started reading the comments here!

I have never run intervals because I don't know how I would measure the distances without a track or treadmill.

Amy said...

I usually eat around 6ish. I work from home so it's easy to start getting things ready early. Working from home also means I can usually fit my workout in whenever I want, so I'm not stuck doing it after work and then eating later. It's a nice perk!

I love intervals too! They make me feel like I'm training and not just running. I'm pretty new to them though, so I often wondered the same thing so it's good to read others' comments on this.

I'm not religious so I'm not giving anything up for Lent, but I'm using the time to try to develop better eating habits anyway. Rather than try to give up chocolate or candy altogether, I'm trying to eat one piece of fruit as a snack every day. I've always loved my veggies, but I've never been a good fruit eater!
