Recovering from the Long Run

Saturday I set out for my long run of 6 miles.  I choose a route I had not run a while which was a little bit hilly.

I won Jeri's giveaway (which included a Road ID, compressions socks, sunglasses and GU) few weeks ago and Friday I got my new Road ID.  It took me a while to figure out what to put on it when I was ordering.  I put my name and city and phone numbers for emergency contacts.  I wanted to put my blood type on it too but when I called my doctor they couldn't find it.  So I instead I put "no known allergies" as well as  "Enjoy Each Run".

The temperature was around 30F and the sun was shinning!  It was just after 9:30am when I set out for the run.  The hills began right away but we all know that with all uphills there are some downhills!

6 hilly miles in 51:17

After the run, I showered and put on my recovery socks.  I did about 45 minutes of yoga to help stretch out my legs.  For the past few weeks I have been doing yoga after my long runs and I have really noticed the difference.  I am also a firm believer in recovery socks.  They really work wonders and make my legs feel like I didn't just do a hard workout!

After yoga it was almost lunch time so I made my favorite post run meal - grilled cheese with tomato!  It was the delicious!

How do you recover from your long run?

Today (Monday) is my first official day of half marathon training!  I ran 3 easy miles this morning.  Tomorrow I'll share my training plan from my running coach! It is pretty aggressive which scares me and also excites me!

Happy Monday!

I have been wearing my compression socks on my long runs lately and it has been great...
I am all about stretching and a coffee immediately post run and then food - as healthy as possible works best for me...

Good job on the long run! Strange but true - I always crave rice or pizza after a long run. I have no idea why... :)

Recovery socks, food and napping. Definitely :)

My mom got me 2 road ID's for Christmas and they each have my name, my moms phone # my dads phone # erics phone # and say "no known allergies".

I love them! I got the kind that go on my shoe laces!

Sweet! Good job on your long run! Love the pictures, it looks so pretty out there! Mmm grilled cheese and tomato looks yummy! I always refuel with a very large breakfast... pankcakes, eggs, bacon, toast! I love it!

I bought the manfriend a Road ID for xmas and he says it gives him a better sense of safety when he's out for long bike rides on his own. I still want to get some compression socks. They sound great! And grilled cheese...yes please!

Yoga is the best way to get things stretched out. Often I just want to hop in the shower, but I force myself to stay in my sweaty clothes until I've done a little stretching.

I have a road id and love it. I feel much safer wearing one. I have one that I put on my shoe. Def worth the $20 I spent on that.

After a long run, I treat myself to chocolate milk. If it's a REALLY long run, I sit in an ice bath, which 'hurts so good' but helps w/ the recovery process!!

What a speedy run! :)

I am excited to see your half plan!

I like to do yoga after running too. I think it really helps! And I am trying out the compression socks.

I am not saying this to be mean, just an observation, but it surprises me how many people don't know what their blood type is! It makes me wonder why I know what mine is!
