Weekly Mileage

Unintentionally I ran fewer miles this week than the past 3 weeks. Without a long run and two full back to back rest days, my legs and my body didn't know what was going on. My mini cutback week was only 4 miles less than usual but I could still feel the difference.

Friday I crawled out of bed with sore cramping calves and ran a decent 4 miles.

Saturday I talked my dad into picking me up 4 miles from home.

Sunday I put off my (supposed to be long) run (because of down pouring rain) until right before dinner. 4 more miles.

That left me 4 miles short. And it bothered me that I didn't run those miles. Those extra 4 miles, that really didn't matter in the scheme of things and by not running them my body got a chance to rest up.

So last night I decided I would try to do a longer run Monday morning. But what did it matter, a new week would be beginning and my mileage for last week would be what it was.

After dealing with my second night of semi insomnia, I set out early this morning in a constant drizzle of rain, pitch darkness and wind. At times it was scary. I wondered what the drivers were thinking as their headlights caught my reflective vest. Were they thinking I was crazy for being out at 4:50am running on the road in the rain??

I got in 5 miles and that seemed like enough; a decent way to start off the week. Now if I can just stay awake at work until the end of the day, that would be great!

Helllloooo miss engaged!!!! :) i stopped tracking my weekly mileage. i decided i can't do the running website b/c it has different goals/implications than i am currently operating with. i think my weekly running mileage is in the 20s. but not sure. are you following a training plan? and a prescribed mileage? what's your next race???? tufts 10k?????

Mine was low, low, low! But it was intentionally low, I needed a leg rest hehe :-)

The rain kept me from doing 3 miles yesterday but the truth is my calf was not going to cooperate anyway so it was for the better I am sure!

Very slowly coming back up after a knee injury. Hope I can keep it climbing!

As for you...out there running at 4:50 in the dark and drizzle...I'm impressed!

Sometimes we just have to put a lower week behind us. One thing I have been warned is NOT to try to catch up.

Great job on the rainy, morning run!

Last week I ran my highest ever, 57 miles!

My weekly mileage was the lowest it's been in MONTHS last week due to the stupid smoke messing up my long run. I only did 19 miles and this week I am going to be doubling that!!

The unintentional "rest" week was good for me though as I ran a very speedy 5K this morning!

my weekly mileage is still high by "normal standards" but MUCH lower than last month. which is refreshing and i actually am feeling great about it :)

regardless of overall mileage you are a champ for getting out and getting miles done. for real. especially that wicked early and rainy run!

my miles are starting to go down now, which is making me nervous. I know that the taper is coming, but I still feel like I should be doing more. Gotta trust the plan I guess!

My training plan called for 44 last week. I ran 36. I am not upset by this. If I would have ran 8 on Sat and then 18 on Sunday, I think I would have been wiped out. I have a mileage amount that I aim for each week, but i also listen to my body...

Good for you for getting out there that early - and in the rain, too! :)

Hello! Its "Becca J." from Daily Mile! Great blog, by the way... I finally checked it out. :-)

My mileage was high last week, but as you know from my DM posts my knee is bothering me and this week is a step-back week. My knee needs it, but I am concerned about how I am going to handle it psychologically, because I really like running lots of miles!!

No worries about a week with a few less miles than normal... Great job running in the dark raininess that was this morning - man that is EARLY!!

I've been running slightly less also. All that heat! And, I start official training in about a month so I'm working on strength training. Don't worry about running a little less. It won't hurt you :) The rest will help!!

ur milage is still pretty awesome. a few missed miles wont make that big of a difference.
and you will make them up in no time!
no sweat! (well, since we are runner, there is lots of sweat; but u know what i mean. lol)

It's crazy how our bodies get used to running a certain frequency or level! You're still doing great and rest can only be a good thing! Just remind ourselves of that!

I can totally relate to feeling lost miles - even when I know it doesn't mean anything in the long run! Don't beat yourself up - you did great going out like you did on Monday morning - I love new weeks!

Isn't it funny how missing a run can affect us? I missed a measly 3.5 miler last week and was beating myself up about it. My weekly total was supposed to be 16.5 but only ended up being 13.1 or something. It's okay though- it's a new week! :)

Glad to know I am not alone in wondering what drivers think when they see us in the early morning darkness, I live in a very small town, so I don't see a lot of cars on my early runs, but a few! I am just always hoping they are paying attention and don't run over me, I need to get myself a safety vest.

I know what you mean about missing the miles - that drives me nuts, but really in the grand scheme of things, 4 miles isn't going to make or break your next race!

I'm currently running my most weekly miles ever as I build towards the marathon.
