TIART: Favorite Race!

This week I am hosting Runners' Lounge TIART!! The topic for this week is:

What is your favorite race? Do you live for the marathons or crave a 5k? Would you rather race in the morning, afternoon, or at night? Do you like big races with tons of people and encouraging crowds or do you prefer the smaller hometown races?

I wanted to show you all some pictures from my favorite races!

For the last 5 years I have run the Boilermaker 15k in Utica, NY and I LOVE it! This was the race that made me catch the running bug and got me hooked on running!! I love this race because there are so many people and spectators!

My favorite size race has to be the 5k - I just love the face pace and how quick the 3 miles fly by! Of course I love to race in the mornings since that is when I usually train but I have been wanting to try a night race!

Although I enjoy running in bigger races, I am not a fan of the crowded race where it takes a while to get to the start! I love being able to start right up front and run at my own pace right from the start!

Well those are the races that I love, what races do you love???

Hi J!
I have a friend who also does the Boilermaker every year--that's a hot one!

Great slide show J! Thanks for sharing with us!

My favorte has to be 10K, but I also like the HMs. Long enough to require a little strategy. And not as painfule!

I'll need to think about this question. Hmm, I see a blog coming up....

Love the slideshow! I have to try out the Boilermaker one day. I must say, my favorite is the half marathon.

I love a 10K. It's long enough to get a good work out but not too long to where you are wiped out for the day.

Unfortunately, in NOLA most of our races are small with few spectators. I wish i could run more large races b/c I'm slow. Small races only bring out the die hards who are faster than me. I know this will sound funny, but it helps me know know that there are people slower than I am.

Favorite race and distance – That’s a tough one. I like the half marathon because it makes for a good tempo run and it’s over quickly. And the recovery is short! I like the crowd for shorter races because it really energizes me. For longer races I prefer low key, which is usually the case for the crazy events I do. I like the longer races (ultras – 50M & 100M) because it really pushes every fiber of my body to cross the finish line. Each race type brings a different challenge – Enjoy them all.

I love your slide show. For me, its all about the big crowds. I totally feed off of the crowds energy :)

1) Great TIART this week!
2) Thanks for sharing the slideshow!!!
3) My favorite race to date is Chicago Marathon for obvious reason. :) But I love me a 10k the most. I prefer racing first thing in the morning because that is how I train and usually run. And finally, I love spectators, they can totally make a race!!! The more the merrier!

Great question and cool slide show. You inspire me to take more running pictures. As for your TIART question, I really like the speed/fun/flexibility of 5ks.

Sounds like a great race! Love "I Run To You" as well!

I love my local 1/2 marathon. It was my first race I trained for in 2005, and I've done it every year since. 5k is definitly my favorite distance though. As an ex-100 & 200 m. dasher, it's as close as I can get to a "speed" race.

Re: your photo album. It's sooooo weird. I don't know when I started reading your blog...probably around Feb. of last year. But I've only seen a couple of pictures in that time, and the one that stuck in my mind looks NOTHING like the ones on the slideshow. weird. I think it's a picture of you and a guy (Brian perhaps) post-race, it's not in the slideshow, but compared to all the slideshow pics you look like 2 different people. At least now I feel like I could pick you out in a crowd. ;)

My favorite all time race was my first (and only) half marathon. I love that distance and would do anything to get back up to those miles...

My fave distance is probably the 1/2. Or the full marathon I did in 2006 - I've never had such a feeling of accomplishment!

ah, sorry I didn't see this in time to participate! this is a great question for TIaRT!!

Love the pics, btw :) very fun

I can't choose a "favorite" distance - but have done a few 10Ks and 10-Milers this year that I've Really loved. They're long enough, but not *too* long. The 5K always feels too short for me....

The night races are AWESOME! I wouldn't choose that for Every race experience (since it's starts to get cold...), but for the summer, it was absolutely perfect. Plus you still get to sleep in ;)

great blog btw! my fav race has to be off road halfs...ive only done them in nz, and my fav one is 'the goat', (which describes it aptly)...google it and you will see! I want to try out 5k racing..ive heard they are good for marathon speed training...
I enjoy big crowds the most, lots of contenders, spectators, funny outfits..etc...

Great topic and slideshow! I probably love the Race to Wrigley the best just because you get to run around Wrigley Field. Although I'm not a fan of the 5K!

Great question. The Lincoln marathon/half is my favorite. Big enough to be exciting and big, but not too big where it's impossible to park and scary.

Great pictures! My favorite race is probably the half-marathon. I like the pace of it and the distance. I agree...being able to start in front and fast is key to a good race! Have a great weekend!

My favorite is definitely the sprint triathlon I did this summer! It went by so fast because you were always switching it up. Other than the triathlon, I haven't had much experience racing, other than a 5k, which I loved too! I'm definitely hoping to race more though!
