Happy TGIF!

So yesterday I am sitting at work, it was about 10am, and BAM I get hit with this KILLER headache. I took an Excedrin and drank water like it was my job but nothing helped! I even went and got a 3 musketeers bar from the vending machine after lunch. Nothing seemed to work!

When I got home I took 800mg of Ibuprofen and went to meet up with my friends Kaylie and Lisa at the gym for spin class. We spent a few minutes before class chatting away (girl time = just what I needed) and stretching and before I knew it, my headache was gone.

Spin class KILLED me though. We had a substitute teacher and she worked us so hard! My quads were dying! I decided to sleep in this morning and run my track workout after work since its supposed to be sunny and nice (sorry treadmill, I am sure I'll see you next week)!

Tomorrow Brian has scheduled a massage for me. I have had a serious knot in my right shoulder for about 3 months now and it is bothering me so much that I can't sleep on that side. I can pick between a deep tissue or Swedish massage. I have had a massage before (a Swedish one I think) about two years ago. I was thinking about getting a deep tissue one? Has anyone had one these - I heard they can be painful??

Just in case I can't move after my massage, I'll be running tomorrow morning.

Hope everyone has a great Friday and a wonderful weekend!!

You will love the deep tissue massage. That is the only kind I get. With running so much and working out, they really work all of the kinks out.

I've never gotten a deep tissue massage but that sounds amazing! What a great way to relax after working so hard.

Go for the deep tissue massage! It'll be a bit painful, but it really works out all the knots. I find Swedish massages to just be relaxing (which is still awesome!) but not as useful if you're in some pain. The last deep tissue/sports massage I got 100% worked out a knot in my hip that was stopping me from running. Just drink lots of water afterwards and you'll be feeling great :)

I want a massage too! Glad your headache went away :-)

Deep tissues are the best! You may be slightly sore afterward if you are not use to them...but it is so worth it! Enjoy it girl

I would describe the DTM as a 'hurts so good' feeling. You won't regret it and you will love the results/relief.

Enjoy!

Oh how I need a massage. I have been putting it off since December!

Have you tried foam rolling your shoulder? Or seen a chiro? I had the worst knot in my shoulder last year, and when I went to the chiro, I found out my arm is attached to my shoulder a little "off".
I hope it gets better for you soon! TGIF!

I should really get a massage, too!

I've heard you shouldn't go for deep tissue if you aren't used to being massaged, but I'm not all that experienced in this dept ...

Massages - fun! Headaches? Not so fun.

Glad the headache went away though. And enjoy the massage!

Hope the massage helps your shoulder. I have bouts of "computer shoulder" every once in awhile. It really stinks!

Be careful with the deep tissue, I've heard they hurt too! I think that if you talk to the person doing it you should be ok.

I get migraines so I feel ya...worst thing ever! Credit for you for continuing to function. I choose to sit in a hot shower with the lights off.

As long as you talk to the person giving you the massage go with deep tissue. They can hurt, but are SO much better than Swedish massages, IMHO. Don't forget to drink lots of water after.

Deep tissue!!

I had one at Nemacolin Woodlands. It was great! But I enjoy pain that "hurts so good". I mean I run, come on.

I would go for deep tissue. It might hurt a little, but it will be a good hurt in that you'll feel it working.

Have a great weekend!

You know, I get those types of headaches too and the only thing that can touch them are Excedrin. The good news is it disappeared before your spin class.

Good luck on your run after your massage! I have to get mine the day before a rest day...

I'm a big baby when it comes to massages so a deep tissue would probably be too much for me! Only the gentlest of massages DON'T hurt me. It'd probably be good for you though!

Personally deep tissue hurts me too much and I end up leaving tensed up. I always visit the chiropractor when I have a kink and it fixes it every time (then I follow with a nice, relaxing swedish massage ;)

Also, Bengay or another muscle rub works really well for helping relax the muscles around a kink and a lot of times it will work out on its own.

That was so sweet of Brian to book a massage for you! I haven't had one since after my marathon in '06! They are so great though, I should treat myself to one after my half in May.

Deep tissue scares me but it would probably be the most beneficial if I had alot of knots!

Enjoy your weekend!!
