Wednesday Workouts and TBL

I am really enjoying not being on a training plan. My favorite part of running is being able to pick the workouts by how I am feeling that day. If I feel like running fast I do; If I feel like running slow then I do that. I am apprehensive about going back on a training plan because last time I pushed too hard and had the hip problem for most of summer 2009.

Although my running schedule is not exactly the same each week I do try to go to yoga on Mondays and Spin class on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I have noticed that my IT band pain is almost vanished since regularly going to these classes. Yesterday morning I ran on the treadmill and did feel some IT band pain so I am trying to run outside unless its icy or a blizzard!

And if you are looking for a good hip stretch try this yoga pose: Fire log.

Are there workouts or XT that you do every week? Do you like being on a training plan or being able to pick your workout day to day??

***

And now my Biggest loser thoughts because seriously this season is out of control!!

1. I think the red team is lying! Melissa is totally playing the game! She is so bossy to her husband and everyone else!

2. The green team has such a sense of entitlement! They need a lot of help mentally! Who tells their daughter not to cry??!!

3. Best quote was when Andrea from the Black team said: "You know that when you are doing the last workout with one trainer that there's another trainer hiding around a tree." (or something like that!)

What are your thoughts on TBL? Love it or hate it?

Yay its Wednesday!!

Great job on your training. It's always nice to be not on a set schedule!
I hate the red team. That woman needs to be slap. I agree that she is so bossy! The green team pisses me off too. They way they handle things is so messed up. How they really come off as they just don't care. They do need mental help! Ah I am so obsessed with the show but this season has been drama drama drama!

I LOVE BL but didn't have a chance to watch last nights yet - but it is on the DVR. So excited to see red team drama.

I love having a training plan because it keeps me accountable and I love seeing results. The downside is usually I don't get a very varied workout as I am just focused on one thing. Right now I am enjoying the freedom just to do what I want - a little yoga, a little spinning, a little running - but I feel more accomplished when I have a plan.

I love both non-structured running without a plan and the structure of using a training plan. When "in training", yes, I use a plan. Between seasons, no plan.

Enjoy!

Glad to hear you're feeling less pain! It's so great to find workouts that bring relief!

I keep my workouts pretty much the same, week to week, but have just added a more 'formal' strength routine to my training this week. Going well so far! Hoping to get out for a run a little later today.

Big fan of BL although I do think some of the challenges and things they expect the contestants to do are a bit ridiculous. But, in general, I think it's a motivational show. (Also, I agree with you on all your insights!)

I like TBL although I usually fall asleep while watching. :) It seems like the drama a obnoxious personalities have become a staple to make the show more exciting...I am continually disturbed by the expectation of HUGE weight loss every week and the sense of failure for those who lose less. I think the trainers are borderline abusive and the product placement is RIDICULOUS (e.g. Jillian and the ziploc bags). :)

I admire your ability to train without a plan I would be sooo lost without one. I definitely listen to my body, but I like to know what is ahead for me each week.

You know I'm obsessed with TBL and this season has been crazy already. I didn't like the pop challenge I felt so bad for the purple girl. The red girl is so rude and I hope the games they are playing come back to bite them in the butt. I like the grey team a lot their hearts and minds are in the right place. I usually have a favorite girl, but this I really don't. I do however hope that the white and orange guy make it to make overs because they need a hair cute BAD!

Thnx for the yoga pose. Having two kids is hard on the hips.

Yeah, some times training plans can seem like a second job. I would like to just run. But I have a goal. When I was on tapper for my last half marathon, one day I ran as fast as I wanted for 2mi. I ran like I was a kid and someone was chasing me in a game. It was a great feeling.

TBL: My hubs agrees with you. But I kinda like the red team. He's a good ol' boy who stands by his wife. And I kinda understand the green teams no crying thing. For me, emotions like pain & sadness are very personal. And should be kept to oneself.
It's why I don't like Jillian. Not everyone needs to talk about their feelings to deal with them.
Also, I LOVE LOVE LOVE the grey team. How could you not?

I definitely enjoy not being on a training plan sometimes. I like the flexibility and it's a good mental AND physical break.

I'm trying to do a lot more cross-training this year... Spinning and aerobics classes mostly. I know it will make me a more balanced athlete and stronger runner.

And I want to strangle the red team.

i love your "schedule" i think it is working really well for you. you're used to the usual demands of daily practice so i think unlike others you won't get too many days away from a fast run :) and you are DEF running fast ! so it is clearly working :)

i always XT on the bike and i think it has major protective benefits!!! i wish i had spinning classes to go to tho!

Oooo thanks for sharing that yoga pose!!! My ITB is officially rearing it's ugly head again now that I'm in the thick of high mileage on the training cycle. Me & Mr. Foam Roller have been having a ton of face time.

I've realized that even when I'm not training I need a schedule, anything that keeps me balanced. So I have a "maintanance plan" I use when I'm not training for something. It keeps me happy because I still get in some miles and maintain a solid base.

red team gets smacked from me as does the green team. this season is full of so much drama i cant HANDLE IT!!! gahhh!!!

i love not being in a training plan- life is so much better! :)

I like a schedule because it is helps me plan my workouts with the kids. I am happy to hear that your IT band is feeling better :-)

I can't wait for my half marathon training to be over. I love being free to run what I want when I want :)

I love this season of the biggest loser. I want the red team to go down!! I love Michael, the orange team, the black team, and I LOVE THE GRAY TEAM!!! Love them!! I loved when Jillian was talking to mrs. red and she was trying to say that she didn't think she was lying and she's all i can't you're lying lol!

I like being on a training plan! I have it taped to my fridge and I lvoe the satisfaction of crossing workouts off as I do them!

I am so far behind on DVR watching. I am not up with this season. :( I guess I can't watch everything!

Yay for no ITB pain! I have greatly modified my training plan so that I'm running a max of 3x/week, and do a LOT of foam rolling, spinning and yoga. ITB pain is noticeably better. I think cross training is crucial esp if injury prone. Hope your pain gets better and better! And enjoy your non-training plan running :)

I prefer a schedule. I need something to keep me on track and push me through the ups and downs. It's important to listen to your body though too. Always know when is too much.

I loathe the red team, but the green team is JUST as bad. Mike's work was certainly overshadowed, and I ADORE John.

LOVE me some Fire Log, btw. Time to add it back in to my running...

I am the opposite and feel weird when I am not following a training plan... I just kind of feel 'lost' or something like that! So I have just been running 3-4 miles during the week and trying to do a longer run on the weekend. I will start training for my half on Feb 8th.

I am bit worried that I might have done something to my knee... I could only run 3 miles last night as it was really bothering me. I am going to ice it & stick to the elliptical for the next week or so. Hopefully that will help. i just hate running on the treadmill but until we have more hours of daylight, I will have to put up with it...

of course Melissa was lying!!!! What she did is part of the game, she made WAY to big a deal over it and ruined her image and lost a lot of support i'm sure. she likes to start trouble. i'm not a fan of the green team, i think they are very cocky and feel like everyone owes them something. 1 down 1 to go. God help the people who voted for Miggy! I'm sure she will make their lives miserable! ahh, as long as i dont have to watch vicki and heba again i'm happy!

I wrote a whole hate post about BL about a month ago so I won't hi-jack this post with my long involved thinking in regards to the show.

I do love being on a training plan because I am totally Type A but I do tweak it often and I don't flip out if I miss a work out (so NOT Type A of me!). I try to pack a lot into each week so that when I do have to miss a work-out, it is okay.

I agree! Sometimes I like being on a schedule but lately I've just been feeling like I want to do what I want to do! haha

Tricia said...

I'm still watching TBL each week, but not enjoying it as much as I used to. And I agree, the red team is totally lying.

Anne said...

I'm on my first training schedule and so far I'm liking not having to guess what I should be doing. I gather when I won't be planning for a race, I'll enjoy just running on my own schedule.

As for TBL, I do watch, usually with one eye while I read or blog...mostly cause I love seeing how the player sent home has changed! :)

Jamie said...

I feel a little lost without a plan but it is nice to do what I want! Although I don't push myself with the speed workouts for sure.

Red team drives me crazy! I hope the go soon.

That yoga pose is awesome. There's one that's similar where you stack your knees that's great for the hips, too. I love having a schedule and I love going to spinning at least once a week. I've been on a yoga kick lately and have been doing it for 30 min most days after work. I really think both those things have helped keep me *basically* injury free.

teacherwoman said...

Thanks for sharing the hip stretch... I need that.

The one workout I try to do at least once a week is BodyPump class. It's my way of incorporating a good our of strength training that reaches all of my muscles and really helps with my knees. If I could, I would do it twice a week..

BL:
1. I thought there was something fishy about the red team since the beginning. They drive me nuts!.
2. The green team has a bad attitude and needs more help with other issues besides their weight.

Lovin' the drama... totally got sucked into this BL season.. yikes!

Happy Hump Day!

I love the Biggest Loser but don't always watch it. I either watch every episode or none and I am currently on none.

I like to flip back and forth between having a training plan and not having one. That works well for me.

I love TBL, but I didn't watch it before last year. I agree with you on your statements. I love being on a running plan, but I like to take a few months off from structured training.

Glenn Jones said...

Nothing wrong with rnning for the love of running!. The problem is most people lose focus and purpose without some type of traning goal.

I really disklike TBL. While it is entertaining, I think it is showing things that are downright dangerous if done without professional assistance.

EndorphinBuzz said...

While I like the freedom of no plan, I really enjoy the focus and measurable results that a plan will bring me!

I finaly stopped watching TBL. Just couldn't handle it anymore. Glad the ITB is all better. :D

TBL is ridiculous these days. I watch it because I'm using riding my bike on the trainer during that time, but the drama... UGH!
