My First Lunch Run

I must admit there have been mornings when I have woken up to run and thought "I really wish I could run at lunch instead because I do not feel like getting up".  I always would just push my run off until the night time instead.

Yesterday morning I woke up with full intentions of running.  I even got all my gear on and almost headed out the door.  Until I realized it was pouring outside.  I turned around and got right back into bed, without taking off my clothes and fell back to sleep for 45 minutes.

I knew I needed to run but I had planned to go to yoga after work which left only a lunch run as a possibility.  I packed a bag with everything I thought I would need and headed to work.

I was nervous all morning because...

1. What if people from work saw me running?
2. What if I sweat a TON and smelled for the rest of the day?
3. What if my hair got really messed up and there was no taming it?

Of course my eleven o'clock meeting ran long and I didn't get into the bathroom to change until quarter to twelve.  We don't have locker rooms here so I was in this tiny stall trying to put on my spandex without touching the dirty floor!

Finally I was ready to go and headed out.  It was a gorgeous day with temps hovering around 40F and I just settled into an easy pace.  It felt weird to be running because I knew I should have been at work.  After a simple out and back I made it back to work and changed into my clothes.

With the use of three simple tools and a wash cloth I almost looked like I hadn't been running.  I forgot to take an after picture because I was in such a rush to get back to work.  Just imagine me with out crazy fly aways and nice work clothes!

It wasn't easy but it was better than not running at all!  Since it was an easy day, I actually didn't sweat that much which made the rest of the day a little bit more comfortable.  The afternoon was tough because I was a little bit more tired than usual.  It may have been from the run or it may have been because I was dehydrated.  I was able to make it to yoga after work which my legs really appreciated.

First lunch run completed!  Have a great Tuesday!

I ran at lunch last week and it went WAY better that I thought it would. I basically just toweled off afterward and put on deodorant and a spritz of body spray!

I actually found that running at lunchtime energized me to get through the rest of my afternoon so it's something I want to keep up until it gets TOO hot outside in July/August!

Woohoo, good for you taking a chance and getting out there. At least you know it's an option now when needed.

I definitely find it easier to make myself presentable again after an easier run.

I do lunch time runs a lot and because I live in South Georgia, where it usually goes from Summer, Summer, Fall, Summer, here are my tips for having successful non-smelly afternoon (if you can't get to a shower): towel, baby wipes, deorant and body spray.

I'm telling you those baby wipes makes all the difference and no one is none the wiser that you were out running on your lunch break. I've done 6 miles on my lunch break before and my boss only knew about it because I told him afterwards.

Awesome job for getting out there and getting the run in.

i indulge in lunch runs a lot during the winter. if you do it again another thing you can add to your bag (i can't shower after my lunch runs every time due to time constraints and no shower at work!) is some body spray. does the trick nicely to cover up that 'run' smell! :)

Yay for the lunch run! I am wondering where you ran, because I know you're jealous I get to run in this area all the time. :-) Up and down East or University is my favorite... except the sidewalks on East Ave.

i've never done a lunch run before. i kind of wish that i had more than 30 minutes total for my lunch break but i think trying to cram it all in would stress me out hahah! glad you got it done and it sounds like you liked it :)

Nice work! I prefer the benefits of a lunch run over having pretty hair post run. ;) A few days this winter I've come back from a run during which it started POURING and my hair was just an awful mess the rest of the day. But you know what? I didn't really care because I got my run in. I'm sure my coworkers thought otherwise.

Yay for your first lunch run! They always make me feel so invigorated... but I have to shower. And don't look my best the rest of the day. I need to work on that ;)

Nice work! I think I sweat too much to pull off a lunch time run... maybe if it was in the 30-40 range and I did a really slow pace, but I still think i might be too sweaty!

Awesome!

You could get a box of baby wipes, too, because they work well for cleaning you off quickly and they generally smell nice. But, I suppose if anyone saw you with baby wipes, they might get the wrong idea! Ha!

Great job!! I always am nervous to do a lunch run because I feel like I might feel too rushed! I'm going to give it a try this summer I think!

I seriously sweat like a beast, so I'm not sure I could pull off this little trick. It must be so nice to be a guy and not worry about hair/make up...ugh! I would love to be able to go for a quick lil run at lunch!

And you look so cute! JEALOUS!

Great run! Ahaha, I just love having to do stuff like that in the tiny bathroom stall, trying not to touch anything!

Good job!! I've done a run before lots of errands. There are always at least 2 deodorants in my car at any time! I'm sure you felt great for the rest of the day too!

I want to do lunch runs so badly but the smell is what worries me too! I sweat like a pig!

I have always loved the idea of a lunchtime workout, but I've never worked at a job where I get a lunch break before. I always just grab food and eat while I work. You are so lucky to have that!

I love LOVE lunch running! It totally motivates me to get through the rest of the day.

We don't have locker rooms either, so I wait for the handicap stall to change in - tried to change once in the normal stalls and punched the wall trying to get my sports bra on. :(

good for you, that's great you got it in! I've seen baby wipes for grown ups that you can get at the running store for cases just like this one!

I've never done a lunch run - your strategy seemed to work though! I think i would be nervous about the sweat factor too. Hehe, or that I would just keep running and not want to go back to work. That would be the real challenge!

WOW woman you rock it! I'm not sure I'd have the courage to do something like that. :)

Oh man, I wish I could run at lunch. LIVE IT UP!

My lunchtime runs happen generally in the winter when it is a little warmer outside or early spring. It's nice not having to worry about seeing or being seen, but then there is the sun to contend with.. pros and cons.

I love lunchtime runs. It makes me feel that much more productive to get it done during the business day. Good luck on them!
