DNS

I went to the meet Saturday with my team, I stayed over with the other Pentathletes, I arrived at 9am at the meet. I ran a few laps and warmed up, I started to sprint and felt pain.

I did not compete.

I am doing ok with this - I was pretty upset when I had to tell my coach I just could not compete. It was hard to watch the other girls compete so I focused on helping my other boy teammates (they came in 2nd and 3rd!!) I have been slacking on the commenting on blogs because I really haven't been too happy and I don't want to spread my negativity.

I went to rehab this morning (I sound like I am on drugs!) and the trainer gave me 3 exercises to do and honestly I am really glad that I didn't run yesterday because I have minimal pain in my hip.

I am hoping for a quick recovery. The hip flexor is such a tricky thing, but I'll be doing my exercises all week and icing every few hours and also taking my drugs (aka aleve). I hope everyone else had a great weekend and is doing well!!

Good move on not competing, even though it was a hard decision to make. Ultimately, the tough ones are usually the right decisions. Hang in there!

Sorry you were not able to compete, but the important thing is getting better! Who knows what kind of damage you could have done.

One of the guys I run with suffered a severe hip flexor injury last summer. He was on crutches for weeks and off running for 6 months. Now that he has recovered, he performs this little routine before EVERY SINGLE RUN to keep things loosened up and prevent a recurrence. Please check it out... it only takes 5 minutes or so to complete.

that must've been a really hard decision and a really hard day. you seemed to manage it really well tho and i think your negativity is wayyyyyyy minimal considering the circumstances and you are certainly entitled to feel and respond any way cuz it's not a small thing that has happened to you.

so good you are going to rehab-- it's the best place to be :) and here's to a quick recovery.
btw-- i'm super interested in the exercises they have you do!!! could you post about that? thanks :)

I'm so sorry you couldnt compete, but it was good to listen to your body. With hip-flexor pain, therapists at our rehab clinic would reccomend aquatic therapy. If you lived in Michigan, you could come visit me in the pool and i could help you get better! :)

Ohhhh no! I'm really sorry chica. DNS are SUPER hard when you have to do it by yourself, I can only imagine how much harder that must have been for you in the team atmosphere. It was definitely a smart move though :-) I'm glad you're cool with it!

Ouch...I feel for you. A DNS is definitely hard to swallow...but if it means a speedier recovery for you, then I guess it was the right decision.

Hip flexors are a tricky injury. You have to make sure it heals completely before you get back to racing competitively.

Best of luck in your recovery!

I hope you are able to recover quick. I'm sure it is frustrating.

I think you did the right thing. Small set-back now for a faster recovery in the future.

I think any of us who has been injured, esp. when part of a team, can understand why you're feeling negative. Ugh. I'm sending my thoughts for a speedy recovery your way.

What a bummer! I am sure it was not easy sitting on the sidelines but it's the best for your injury right now. Think long term!! Your time to shine will come very soon... I'm sorry about that dang hip-flexor... :-(

You made a good choice, many would just push themselves too hard and hurt themselves. Take it easy and you will be rewarded!

That stinks...sorry sweetie. But I hope you're recovering well from your injury and you'll be better in no time flat.

Have a great weekend.
