TIART: Spring Training

Tomorrow marks the first day of Spring! When I think of spring I think of TULIPS! They are one of my favorite flowers!!

With tulips and spring comes, running outdoors which I have been taking advantage of the last few days.

It is Thursday and that means TIART and this weeks theme from Runner's Lounge is Spring Training tips!

#1 - Its lighter in the morning so take advantage of it and get out for a morning run! (I did name this blog "Morning Runner" because I like to run in the mornings!!)

#2 - Wear less clothing because if you don't then you will get really warm while running and then you will sweat alot!!

#3 - Sign up for a spring race (most of you have done this already - I add this for myself because once track ends I want to jump right into training for a race!!)

I am actually more excited to hear everyone else's training tips!

Yesterdays practice was good - it was a speed day. I recently have been wondering how many calories I actually eat a day. I never really keep track but my friend recommended the website The Daily Plate. It is a good site but doesn't seem to be user friendly. I want something simple that I can just add in what I eat. Any ideas?

Happy Thursday!

I used to have an account at the daily plate, too... but I ended up just keeping a spreadsheet on my own for my food log. if I dont know the calories for something, I just google it... and now I basically know the caloric values of all foods off the top of my head... useful, but probably annoying to my friends! :)

You migt want to look at Spark People - http://www.sparkpeople.com. I did a quick review on my blog a while back - http://therunningfatguy.blogspot.com/2008/02/great-experiment-calorie-counters.html and http://therunningfatguy.blogspot.com/2009/01/cough-hack-wheeze-food-diary-software.html.

I'm all about wearing less clothing while running. I hate being bundled up for cold weather runs.

Tulips! I can't wait to see flowers on my runs. I know you can track calories on the USDA's site mypyramid.gov, but I'm not sure how user friendly it is.

I went out after work with shorts and long sleeves on the other night - no idea why the long sleeves, guess I am just used to it - and they were off in 1/2 mile. tank top weather!!

I played with a few calorie-counting / food diet sites, and I like fitday.com the best. You enter your foods AND your activities. You can see how much you're burning, and adjust your meals accordingly.

Some others didn't take into account the calories burned from exercise.
