Seeking Inspiration

I am going to jump on TFH's bandwagon and participate in Literary Wednesday! Since I got back from my "week of track meets" and finally settled into my regular routine I have been seeking inspiration to inspire me to compete in my final track meet (next week).

My mom suggested this book - Lone Survivor by Marcus Luttrell and I have only just started it but it is really interesting. Some of you may have heard about Luttrell and his story is one of determination and heroism.

Speaking of determination - once I picked up this book I started on a Navy SEAL kick where I looked up all the information about them. I was able to find videos about the first three weeks of training they go through to become a SEAL. It was very similar to the movie G.I. Jane but I have always been fascinated with the amount of perseverance and determination it takes to complete the training. Seeing those men push through pain and continue on really helped to motivate me to continue working to be the best in my track events.

Speaking of motivation - I usually don't watch the Biggest Loser but last night I just happened to tune in and I was sure glad that I did. I don't mean to spoil it for anyone but watching those four contestants run/walk a marathon was very inspiring and brought me to tears. It is amazing how much they have accomplished on that show!

As for workouts this week, I still have my cold and I still feel really run down from last week. Practices have been fairly light but I still have been feeling sluggish and slow. I guess it is taking me a lot longer to get back to normal than I thought.

It is a beautiful day out today! Happy Wednesday!

I loved TBL last night! At first it ticked me off that they were essentially giving American the impression that someone can train for and complete a marathon in 26 days, but then Helen said something like "Maybe we've been training for this marathon all along." That made me look at it a little differently. And really, who knows how many miles they have been running and walking every day!

It was really moving to see everyone cross the finish line, especially Ron at the end.

Ugh, Colds :( Hope you feel better soon. Relax and enjoy the books. I'm not a biggest loser watcher but now I wish I were, maybe I can find it online. And bummer about your hip, I hope that is feeling better too.

That book sounds nice! I love inspirational books. In high school my mom always bought me quote books and tried to motivate me. I'll see if i can dig them out of storage (like i graduated oh so freakin long ago) and try to inspire you!

We do have alot in common! :)

I've recently gotten hooked on the biggest loser... and i was balling last night! It was SO awesome to see them finish something so hard!

I would love to do SOME of the SEAL training and stuff like that. I think it would be fun in a sick way. However, I would never want to be in the armed forces, just want to do the training.

I know a guy who was a trainer for the SEALS. So much of what they do is about building confidence - getting the recruits to believe that they *can* do. The fact is all the recruits have the physical ability to do the needful. But, those who finish the programs are the ones who believe in themselves and get it done. Sound familiar Ms. NCAA track star?

I loved the series about SEAL training. What dedication and sacrifice, and I admire them incredibly! I don;t know if you saw this, but this log they had to lift and carry was named "Misery" The instructors would always say "Misery loves company, bit no one loves Misery." The trainees were kind of delirious and couldn't appreciate the humor or the saying.
Anyone who makes it through is incredible.

I have to check out this book.

It's amazing how many places we can draw inspiration from.
