Wedding Talk: Cake!

A few weeks ago, Brian and I went to our cake tasting with the bakery who is making our cake.  Deciding on our wedding cake had to be one of the easier and the hardest things Brian and I had to do.

The easy part - Tasting the cake and deciding what kind of cake we wanted.

The hard part - Deciding what type of design we wanted on the cake.

Brian only cared about the actual cake part, not the design part so that responsibility fell on me.  Our cake will be four tiers with the first and third tiers having a swirl pattern and the second and fourth tiers having a dot pattern.  It will resemble something like this.

Each tier of the cake will be a different flavor so that our guests have a variety to choose from.  We made the bottom and top tier Red Velvet because it is our favorite!

Once we had the basic idea of the cake figured out, there was one thing left.  The cake topper.

I thought about flowers, I thought about rhinestone initials.  I searched the internet forever.  Nothing really stood out.  Then I had the idea of using a family cake topper.  My parent's cake topper is a little beat up and broken so I emailed my aunt to ask her about her's and my grandparents.  She got right on it and sent me photos of what she had.  I am still up in the air about what we will be doing - but I think there is a chance I will be using a family cake topper.

My Grandparent's cake topper

My aunt and uncle's cake topper

When I got to see the family cake toppers in person, they were WAY smaller than I thought.  There is still 3 and 1/2 months to go, so I have some time before I have to make a final decision.

your cake is lovely! lol... I have a cake post going up tomorrow! lol...

the cake is one of the last decisions that i have to make and its kinda difficult lol... Josh doesn't really like cake but we have decided that we'll still have cake at the reception so it's all my responsibility really lol...

Although... Josh did want to pick out the cake topper lol... so we ended up with one where the bride is dragging the groom lol... he thought it was hilarious because everyone knows he surprised me with the engagement and he's the one who decided that we'd get married 6 months after our engagement lol.. silly boy lol ;)

Wow that cake is breathtaking! I hear ya about deciding on the cake tho... we still haven't decided on what kind of cake or what it looks like and the wedding is in 2 months. Though ordering my cake toppers was the very first thing I did. LOL! :) It will all come together!

J and I were talking about our cake the other day... I think we are going to do a 3-tier cake, and then also order a large sheet cake only because I expect about 400+ guest. eeks!

Love cream cheese frosting and red velvet cake!

YUMMY! I can't wait to go cake testing in the spring. Although I think we're going to do cupcakes with just ONE layer of cake for cutting. We'll see, though!

Those cake toppers are both really cute! I haven't even thought about what I want for ours :S Those detail-type things tend to stress me out!

The toppers are so cute! And I love the cake design!

I think it is great you want to give your guests choices. I will say, at my brother's wedding, they had a cake like that, but only cut one layer at a time and people didn't realize there were different flavors and got upset. So... maybe there is a way to avoid that, lol. It didn't bother me!

Great choice on the cake. I love love love cream cheese frosting. If I were at your wedding, you'd need to cut every layer in tiny pieces because I'd want one of each!
