I have been contemplating what I want 2010 to mean to me. My first real year of complete running, running on my time. There is so much possibility in the days that lay ahead in this year. But there is one thing - I have had little desire for racing recently. I haven't even thought about running any races this year except my usual Boilermaker 15k in July. Its a hard feeling to describe especially since I have spent the last 13 years of my life training for something at all times. I honestly don't know what to do next. For the first time in my life since I was 10 I have nothing to train for and maybe I need to go without racing for a while....
And so here are my resolutions and goals (minus a racing calender):
2010 Resolutions:
1. My mom gave me a five year diary for Christmas. Each day has 5 lines that can be filled with short thoughts. I want to write in it each day just like my mom has been doing since before I was born. Last year I tried to do a gratitude journal and I failed but I think this is a more manageable goal for me.
2. Be more patient and understanding. Enough said there.
2010 Goals:
1. Build up mileage and run 1010 miles in 2010. I have wanted to run 1000 miles in a year for a while now.
2. Make sure I enjoy running and that it doesn't become a chore.
So there it is - short and sweet. I thought making a few goals/resolutions would be the best way to start out this year. Once it becomes more clear to me what I want to accomplish then I will add more goals!

Every year I try to write a gratitude journal...I always fail :( This year, I am thinking of making it part of my Week in Review...like three things I am grateful for this week or something.
I like goals that are short and sweet- I wish I could be more like that but I am to type A!

That journal is awesome - 5 lines is so manageable. That is awesome that your mom has been writing in one since before you were born! I used to keep journals, especially when i was traveling. They are so fun to look back at & read!

Short and sweet. Sounds like they're good goals/resolutions to me! I like the writing one though, always helps me to be able to just put my thoughts down on paper without having to worry about others reading it.

i really enjoyed reading these. and i want a 5-year diary! that is such a great idea! i keep a journal but lately i write so few and far between and when i do write it is a lot. but i'd rather write short and every single day. i am so impressed your with your mom!!!! i def want to do that. where did she get the diary?????
i am in a similar situation on the racing front. not sure why i don't really want to race, but i am up in the air and haven't signed up for anything!!!! i'm sort of waiting to be re-inspired because i feel like it WILL happen, i just need time. i am glad to know i'm not the only one. i want to get in really good shape and FEEL READY to race, as opposed to racing and not being happy with my performance b/c unfortunately i am really performance oriented. is def a bad thing, esp since racing actually improves your race time. so in reality i should race MORE!!!!! :) we will figure it out, right?! HAPPY 2010!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Interesting goals. I often find that training for a race can become a drag, but that the race experience itself usually erases the animosity I've built up for training and I'm often eager to start training again soon afterward. I never had the frequency of racing that you had during college, so perhaps some time off would do you some good.
I love the idea of a 5 line journal. I always want to keep a journal but it always dies out because I get busy, but I think five lines is definitely manageable and equally rewarding!
I love journaling! I put in a bit more than 5 lines. I include pictures and mementos of happenings. Someday the fam will enjoy finding it (after I am not here) and reading about my feelings and thoughts of days long ago.

I'm glad you were able to enjoy Hunington when you were here! I live about 5 or 6 miles south in NewportBeach. Did you guys go to Fashion Island Shopping Center? I live across the street no the inland side of that.
