I was not looking forward to writing this post - I was pretty upset after running the mile yesterday. Honestly I should never have even attempted it as my legs were still shot from the speed workout/practice Monday but I didn't realize this until after I had finished running. Here are my 400m splits (in minutes with seconds):
400m: 1:25
800m: 2:58 (1:33 split)
1200m: 4:41 (1:43 split)
1600m: 6:29 (1:48 split)
It is very plain to see that I dropped off and died for the second half of the run. I was right on track and feeling good at the half way point. It was really hard to run this alone and inside on the indoor track. I think that I would have run it faster had I run with someone and I would have run it even faster had I run it outside. Besides my legs hurting for pretty much the whole run, the air was so dry inside that I couldn't breathe once I finished and then proceeded to hack up a lung the rest of the night.
So this was a big fat failure on my part but I really should have known better. I have been driving my body into the ground lately with workouts. After tonight's workout I plan on scaling back on the sprinting and working on more distance runs.
Now I am going to be extremely honest and personal:
I am seriously doubting my abilities and my running in the 4x400m relay. I just don't know how I will be able to run a competitive 400m race. I don't even know if I am capable or if it is even possible for me to run that fast. I am a super Debbie Downer today!
And I just burnt my breakfast toast! Ok enough whining from me! Today is a new day and I am going to try to not think about the past and just focus on the future and have positive thoughts. Hope everyone has a good Wednesday!

You just need a little rest :-) For every bad run there is always a good one and you know what? It will probably be during the 4X400 ;D You'll be back on track (no pun intended LOL) just you wait!
oh no!!!! not the toast! :) you know what, you are still VERY talented, so you will always have that. and you have something to work toward you better believe you will break a 6 mile. it's so not over. i agree with marcy, everyone gets tired and has the ups and downs.
I just wrote a post today about how I've been in a funk, and then I logged on to try to catch up on my google reader... and your post is the 4th I've read today about being in a bit of a funk. Something must be going around. :) The good thing is that things always improve eventually, but I know that doesn't make the funk suck any less.
Don't be so hard on yourself, just the fact that you finished the mile with all that going against you is awesome.
watch out making choice on races when you are having a down day..
cheers.
That's disappointing indeed, but I think it's good to acknowledge the conditions working against you-- not to mention that I always had worse times during time trials than during competition. Can you talk to your coach about your 4x400 doubts? Sometimes just when I'm feeling most down about my potential I do something to surprise myself-- hope the same thing will happen to you!
You DEFINITELY sound like you need some rest. :o) You can totally do this relay race.
Hang in there! And you know, you have to be honest with yourself and your abilities. You choose what event(s) you feel most successful at. ANd one bad practice is not the end. We are all allowed our moments of imperfection. :)
we ALL have those runs... definitely hang in there and get some rest. sometimes we just have those days you know?! dont be so hard on yourself, you will be right back where you were in no time!! plus bad rans make the good runs that much better.
take it easy girlie!
I think some rest will be good for you both physically and mentally. You can run the 4 x 400, I have no doubt. Just run with confidence in you abilities, you are fast.
Don't burn yourself out like your toast! Take some rest and you will feel better.
DOn't be so hard on yourself! Like you said, you have been working your body like mad! Your time is still amazing! And you'll be fine!!
Don't be hard on yourself. One thing I found when doing speedwork was that the little changes -15 minutes more sleep, proper hydration, less stress, enough rest and recovery were HUGE. Besides, your times are still awesome, and I'm sure you will crack 6 minutes.
I had a horrible day running this past Saturday. However the last few days have been great. You might just need a rest day and you'll be back at it like normal.
Take a few days to recover. You'll find your speed and confidence again. We all believe in you!
Dont be so hard on your self & Get some rest girl! Your body needs it!
I just started reading your blog but i'm going to keep up with it, it's a good one.
Just reading your last post it sounds like you've been doing too much and that's why your times didn't hold up to expectation.
The thing about running a 4x4oo relay is that it's just one lap, it's not like the normal training runs you're doing now. You'll be going 100% and will leave everything you have on the track. Plus you'll have compitition and that helps a lot.
Like everyone else has said, I also think you just need a little R and R. Give yourself a break - you've been really pushing yourself lately.
Keep your chin up!
